A new exhibition has opened at the Saatchi gallery with the hope of offering an alternate vision: the Middle East as a source of lively, stimulating contemporary art — informed by conflict, certainly, but not consumed by it. Stars in the sky:
The Starry Night is just one of several Van Gogh paintings that focus on the night sky. Now observe the Starry Night, painted by Edvard Munch in 19th century. Compare the two paintings and answer the folllowing questions:
- What similarities and differences do you see in Munch and Van Gogh’s depictions of stars?
- What colors were used in the paintings?
- Both paintings are oil, how did each artist appear to have used the paint?
- In which painting is the landscape clearer?
- Create your own painting after analyzing these two iconic paintings. Observe how these artists have used colour and form to express their emotions.

The Armory Show – The International Fair of New Art, has been the world’s leading art fair devoted exclusively to contemporary art since its introduction in 1999. The fair is the successor to the highly acclaimed Gramercy International Art Fairs that attracted thousands to their New York, Los Angeles and Miami shows between 1994 and 1998.

Shakespeare made up over 3,000 words. Einstein’s theories started out as ideas. Freud thought our dreams were of vital importance. But when it comes to a total disregard for facts, nobody quite tops Joseph Beuys, the very special 20th-century German artist. For instance, much of Beuys’s artistic output is based on one extremely tall story. When he was rumbled in the 1980s, having propagated his myth for over 30 years, nobody really minded – it simply became part of his oeuvre as an artist.

Paleolithic Art
Paleolithic Art is art produced about 32,000 to 11,000 years ago, during the Stone Age. It falls into two main categories: portable pieces, such as small figurines or decorated objects, and cave art. The portable art was carved out of bone, antler, or stone, or modelled in clay. It has been found in much of Europe, in Northern Africa, and in Siberia. Cave art, discovered primarily in northern Spain and southern France, takes the form of paintings, drawings, and engravings on cave walls. A possible third category comprises pictures and symbols engraved on rock surfaces in the open air, but very little of this art has survived.
